This new elementary school is one of three designed by KCBA for Upper Merion Area School District. Located in the heart of Bridgeport Borough, the building has a small-scale residential character that melds with its neighborhood context. In a town with few open lots for a facility of this scope, the project site was created by combining several small parcels of land; this entailed complex negotiations with the school board, two municipalities, and two utility companies. The intimate 375-student building features clear circulation patterns and a stacked floor plan to maximize interior space on the tight site. Located adjacent to a municipal park, the 53,000 sq. ft. school is organized to facilitate after-hours use by the community including an easily accessible library.
