Renovation/Addition; Expanded to House an Additional Grade as Part of District Grade Realignment
KCBA partnered with Norristown Area School District to explore a series of alternatives to alleviate overcrowding in the elementary grades. The approach ultimately implemented was to shift 5th graders into the existing East Norriton Middle School; this was accomplished through a renovation/expansion initiative that more than doubled its size to a total building capacity of 900. The 73,000 sq. ft. expansion features 39 new classrooms as well as a new cafeteria, kitchen, and signature two-story library. The original 63,000 sq. ft. segment was fully renovated including new mechanical, plumbing, and data systems. Site improvements were also undertaken with reconfigured athletic fields, parking, bus loop, and student drop-off areas.
