This new public works complex houses administrative offices and provides operational and storage areas for the township’s highway, parks, refuse, and sewer departments. Built on the site of the previous public works complex, an important planning consideration was to complete construction while operations were maintained on the site which was tightly landlocked by a commuter rail line to the north, residential properties to the east and west, and commercial properties to the south. In light of this surrounding density, a strategy for the overall configuration and building massing was developed that visually and acoustically shields disruptive activities from neighbors.
